NEW TO SCOUTS

Welcome to Scouts BSA!

Scout Troops are typically "scout-run." The adults are there to supervise, make sure BSA policy is followed, and everything runs safely. Troop 435 follows the scout-run method, letting the scouts plan and run their Troop Meetings, decide where they want to go camping, what merit badges they want to earn, and what activities they'd like to do.

The role of our adult leaders is to make sure everything is safe and provide guidance when needed. The exception is for the newer scouts that join the troop. There tends to be more adult involvement for the 1st and 2nd year scouts until they are more experienced in the youth leadership roles of running the troop.

Youth leadership positions are important in Troop 435 and the scouts are strongly encouraged to hold different leadership positions while in the troop.

In Troop 435, each scout chooses their own level of participation in the troop, not a leader. You work at your own rate of rank advancement.

As with many things in life, you get out of Scouting what you put into it, so we encourage you to be active within the troop by attending meetings and outings and to be proactive in working on requirements for rank advancement and earning merit badges.
