FUNDRAISING

A Scout is Thrifty: The 9th point of the Scout Law says that, "A Scout works to pay his own way and to help others."

Fundraising is an essential part of any organization and Troop 435 is no exception. Troop operations require funds for a variety of reasons from replacing camping gear to purchasing badges. Troop 435 understands the value of a families time and what's needed to participate in fundraising activities. Keeping that in mind, the troop tries to minimize our fundraising activities while maximizing their benefit. We have two types of fundraisers in the troop: those for the unit general fund and those for the individual scout account.

Unit Fundraising

These fundraisers are coordinated by a parent (or two) volunteer for the troop with the help of all the scouts and families with the funds going directly to the unit general fund. Money generated for this account offsets the purchase of awards, supplementing activities, purchasing new equipment, and maintaining existing equipment.

Scout Account Fundraising

These fundraisers are also coordinated by a parent (or two) volunteer for the troop. These fundraisers are done by the individual scouts to help cover costs of summer camp, other troop activities and outings, recharter, and uniform needs.  Funds raised through these efforts are kept in a "scout account" to be used as needed for the scout's participation.

Trails End Popcorn Sales - Fall event.  This fundraiser is BSA coordinated activity where the scouts can typically earn about 30% commission on their sales for their scout account.  While it is a program provided by our Council, it does require a parent volunteer to coordinate for the troop.

Camp Card Sales - Fall event.  Council provided fundraiser for earning money for SAs.  Scouts sell a coupon card (camp card) that has discounts for businesses in our area.  It is a great value for the cost of $5 and the scout earns half for his/her account.  While it is a program provided by our Council, it does require a parent volunteer to coordinate for the troop.

See's Candy Sales - Fall event/Christmas candy.  This fundraiser requires a parent volunteer (or two) to coordinate for the troop.  This activity is highly profitable for our troop and the boys are usually able to earn a lot of money for their accounts.

Holiday Evergreen Wreath Sales - October event.  The wreath sales are new to our troop but have the makings of a good event for raising funds for scout accounts.

Jamba Juice Sales - Spring event.  Scouts sell BOGO cards to earn money for their scout accounts.  This event is also new to the troop but is highly successful.
